Educational Video Why are Things Cute?

The video I picked is called "Why are Things Cute?" and is about why people perceive certain things to cute.  The maker of the video is call VSauce, and they usually make videos explaining physics concepts and other scientific curiosities, like how much does the internet weigh or what color is a mirror.  They go into immense detai, but remain easy to understand and at a fast pace.  Their videos usually contain the same man, who introduces himself as Michael at the beginning of each video, and the video changes from shots of him, to mostly still photos of what he is explaining.  The reason I picked this video, is the same reason I like watching their videos, it goes into great detail explaining a question most people never even thought to ask or consider.  The video is a good example of what we are doing in class because it is a low budget and informative video.  The most important thing about the video is not the visuals but what is being said.  The pictures and animations are there just to compliment Michael's words.

  1. This video does a great job of being long-ish and still being engaging by using visuals, transitions, and a quick pace. All the cute animals were a plus too.

  2. This video was a good choice to pick. It showed us how to be informative in a simple way, which is what we need to do for our own videos. I liked all the facts/opinions backed up with pictures that explain it even further. Good job!

  3. This is such a great video! He was very easy to follow, made some really good points, and all the images definitely complimented what he was explaining and helped illustrate it very well. I also agree with what you said, it's a good example because even though it's obvious he has a low budget and doesn't do anything super fancy with the video, it's still extremely effective and gets his point across in an easy-to-unserstand way.

  4. I really enjoyed this video. The narrator did a good job of being expressive and articulate when describing his point. The in-depth analysis of something so simple is surprisingly entertaining, for many of us fail to ever analyze a term so commonly used and understood. I loved the "adjust cuteness" diagram that is created in the style of a child, yet is extremely true to how simple changes to a boring object can immediately make it cute. It is really funny to think about, especially to visualize in such a scientific, yet comical way. The incorporation of graphics and charts used were not only clearly displayed but they were very entertaining, and combined with the simplicity of the piece, the video's form and content exist nicely together. The bright green background behind the narrator also add to the liveliness of this piece yet allow the viewer to focus intently upon the facial expression and explanation of the narrator. This video allows me to see that a simple subject, and a low budget, when explained and displayed correctly can combine to create a truly informative yet entertaining video.

  5. Even though He didn't use variety angle-shots as I though it is needed to give the video a sense of liveness, he brought that sense any ways by his own way by using such as his body and facial expression. And The topic is very interesting so the topic was able to sell itself. Very interesting education video indeed!!
